Token Collection

We have collected a large number of tokens from Tescos and Sainsburys.  Thank you for all your help!  In total we collected 11,084 Sainsburys vouchers and 13,453 Tescos Vouchers.  We have placed orders for sports equipment and computer equipment which will be in school soon.

Charity Collections

We have been taking part in a number of collections for charity recently.  The sponsored walk which happened as part of Walk to School Week raised a total of £652.72.  This money will be donated to the local Children’s charity Haven House. A special mention to two families who raised a huge amount for the charity – Robert Murphy (Class T) raised £96.50 and Antony Marden (Class T) raised £80.00.  Thank you to everyone who helped to raise money for this special local charity.

We have also raised £60.00 through the collection of Recycled shoes and clothes.  All future monies raised from this collection will be donated to the Richard House Children’s Hospice.

Reception Assessments

The end of reception assessment scores have been finalised.  A moderator from the borough visited the school to check the validity of our scores and found them all to be correct.  Thank you to all of those involved in this process.

Governing Body News

We are sad to announce the resignation of one of our Parent Governors at the end of this term.  Rosalyn Griffiths will be leaving at the end of term after 3 years of hard work.  We would like to thank her for her fantastic support during this time.  An election will be held in September for a new parent governor.  More information will be available nearer the time for those parents who are interested.

Cycling at Gearies

Some of the children have been taking part in cycle lessons in school.  In all, 21 children took part in the cycle safety training sessions.

The school has recently received a grant for £1,000 which will be used to fund a new cycle rack for children’s bikes.  This will provide a place for the children’s bikes to be stored safely while the children are in school, and will hopefully encourage more children to cycle to school.  The remainder of the money will be taken from the school fund, which is collected through the sale of uniforms, and non-uniform day collections etc.

For safety reasons, please check the brakes of your child’s bike regularly to ensure that they are working well.

Recent events in school

On the 18th June the children in Year 1 and Year 2 were visited by the Theatre Group ‘Chain Reaction’.  They enjoyed the performance of the show ‘Food For Thought’ and were able to learn some important messages about Healthy Eating and Healthy Living.
